She must be new here

My conversation with an anesthesiology nurse, while she was looking up my records this morning:

Nurse: "Wow! You're having a really big surgery on Friday!"

Me: "Wait, what? THIS Friday?"

I go into smart ass mode when I don't know what else to say. Not sure it's helpful to have a nurse who works in a place like MD Anderson say "wow!" when she sees your surgery plan.

I think "smart ass" is a good way to go in these situations -- you get to do the "positive" thing (funny!) and the "negative" thing (ass!) all at the same time. See? You're multitasking!

Right before my ruptured appendix surgery there was a very young doctor who said he was going to be assisting the surgeon. This kind of freaked me out and i said to the anesthesiologist....i hope he knows the difference between an appendix and a penis! Everyone in the operating room started laughing including the young doctor!Down came the mask.
Your in great hands...don't sweat it!
